YEAR IN REVIEW

2015 was another active year for the patent community, and another year of surprises.

After falling in 2014, the number of new patent litigation proceedings rebounded in 2015, increasing 13% overall. While the majority of that increase occurred in the U.S. district courts, the number of proceedings in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) also increased. Yet beyond those macro level statistics, the patent landscape continues to shift, prompting all members of the patent community to reevaluate business and legal strategies. In this report, we analyze patent litigation data from the U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and AIA proceedings in the PTAB to help you better understand those changes.
